The latter half of the eleventh century, the Baphuon art style period Sunday, March 2, 2025
The latter half of the eleventh century, the Baphuon art style period, regarded by many as the pinnacle of Khmer artistry in stone carving, is well represented with half a dozen antiquities in the 1989-published book, Thai and Cambodian Sculpture from the 6th to 14th Centuries, written by Wolfgang Felten and Martin Lerner. They showcased 41 previously unpublished works of art, with all but two pieces in private collections, and they included these two stunning polished images of the god Shiva. One is fully intact, and includes the feet with a base, a rarity among the looted sculptures from Cambodia’s remote temples, while the other has his arms and lower legs missing. They remain out of the public eye to this day.Credit By :Andy Brouwer
