The next sculpture to be featured from the book, Thai and Cambodian Sculpture from the 6th to 14th Centuries, written by Wolfgang Felten and Martin Lerner, and published in 1989, is this Pre-Angkor, late seventh century sandstone image, likely to represent the god Shiva, as an ascetic or monastic hermit. The slim figure, missing his legs below his incised sampot and lower right arm, has a distinctive face, thick lips with a rakish moustache and wide-open eyes and long flowing hair. The 1989 book highlighted 41 previously unpublished works of art, with all but two pieces in private collections, stashed away from the prying eyes of the general public.Credit By :Andy Brouwer
