One of the most pristine Pre-Angkor Buddha sculptures at the National Museum was found by villagers in 2010 at Tuol Ang Gnel

One of the most pristine Pre-Angkor Buddha sculptures at the National Museum was found by villagers in 2010 at Tuol Ang Gnel, and dates back to the 7th century and likely crafted in the Angkor Borei region. One of the outstanding pieces from the 1989-published book, Thai and Cambodian Sculpture from the 6th to 14th Centuries, by authors Wolfgang Felten and Martin Lerner, is almost identical in its appearance and posture. It too, was dated to the early seventh century and identified as coming from Angkor Borei. However, this larger standing Buddha is in a private collection and away from the gaze of the public, being published for the first time in the 1989 book, one of 41 sculptures making their debut in print. I have included the Buddha from Tuol Ang Gnel for comparison purposes.Credit By :Andy Brouwer
