For the next example of previously unpublished Khmer antiquities Sunday, March 2, 2025
For the next example of previously unpublished Khmer antiquities, from the 1989 book - Thai and Cambodian Sculpture from the 6th to 14th Centuries – the focus is on Vishnu, dating from the second quarter of the 9th century and originating from the temples on top of Kulen mountain. The National Museum in Phnom Penh has a few examples of such sculptures, and another pictured here was previously in the private collection of Douglas Latchford. The only noticeable difference is in the arrangement of the sampot. The 1989 book, written by Wolfgang Felten and Martin Lerner, does not state the whereabouts of the Kulen Vishnu they highlight, though it once again displays all the tell-tale signs of having been looted with its missing feet and arms.Credit By :Andy Brouwer
