For the second peek into the pages of the 1989-published book - Thai and Cambodian Sculpture from the 6th to 14th Centuries – by Wolfgang Felten and Martin Lerner, in which the authors included 41 Cambodian and Thai artworks in stone and bronze, I have selected this remarkable gilded bronze from the late 12th century, Bayon art period, of the Tantric Buddhist deity, Hevajra. From an unidentified private collection, this outstanding piece depicts the dancing deity with eight heads, sixteen arms and four legs, dancing on four corpses instead of the usual one and with his feet touching the base and with individual attributes in each hand. This is one of the very best Khmer bronzes I’ve ever seen.Credit By :Andy Brouwer
