The final Khmer artwork from the 41 pieces showcased in the 1989 book Monday, March 17, 2025
The final Khmer artwork from the 41 pieces showcased in the 1989 book, Thai and Cambodian Sculpture from the 6th to 14th Centuries, by authors Wolfgang Felten and Martin Lerner, is perhaps a fitting artifact to end these posts on. The authors believe it’s a 13th century bronze of a meditating Buddha with the face of King Jayavarman VII, created after his death – in essence, the ruler as Buddharaja. It was in an unpublished and unnamed private collection at the time. The 1989 book has been invaluable to increase my awareness of the publicly-known Khmer artworks, and I hope they’ve improved your awareness too.Credit by :andy.brouwer
