The history of " batik" In Malaysia began 1913.
History shows that Malaysian batik began in Kelantan, located in Lorong Gajah Mati, Kota Bharu. Skrin batik (filtered silk) is believed to have been pioneered by a group of batik makers in Kelantan and the process of making batik using wax began in 1913 in Terengganu.
Batik is a branch of art that shows the subtlety of Malay culture and art. Among the batiks commonly produced are canting batik, applied/block batik, screen batik and rainbow batik.
The motifs of Malaysian batik designs are mostly inspired by nature, such as larat clouds, bamboo shoots, creeping roots, lotus flowers and cempaka flowers.

According to the Oslo Museum of Cultural History, it is known for certain that the Javanese influenced the making of Malay batik both technically and in the development of designs. In the early stages, the Malaysians used wooden blocks to produce textiles that resembled batik. By the late 1920s, Javanese batik makers introduced the use of wax and copper blocks on the east coast of Malaysia.
Commercial production began in the 1960s. The craft has developed its own aesthetics and designs, particularly in Malaysia. The new Malaysian batik is distinctly different from the typical hand-painted Javanese batik.
Malaysian batik can be found on the east coast of Malaysia such as Kelantan , Terengganu , and Pahang . Batik in Johor clearly shows Javanese and Sumatran influences due to the large Javanese and Sumatran populations in southern Malaysia.
