 Dance is an integral part of #BalineseCulture, both are inseparable. One of the most well-known Balinese classical dances is 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗴, which is acknowledged by UNESCO as the original cultural heritage of Indonesia🇮🇩🦅

The word #Legong comes from 'leg' that means graceful movement and 'gong' that means gamelan (Indonesian traditional music ensemble). Just like its name, Tari Legong is a dance which movements are tied to gamelan music accompaniment. One of the main characteristics of the dance is the dancer's eye movement and stunning expressions. 

It is said that Tari Legong originated by a prince from Sukawati. He had a dream of two girls dancing gracefully to gamelan accompaniment when he was sick. At first, #TariLegong may only be danced by female palace servants. But since the 19th century, Tari Legong began to spread across Bali because some palace servants who returned to the village taught the dance to the next generation. 

Now Tari Legong acts as an entertainment for the community & the ancestors in religious ceremonies. It is usually performed by 2-3 female dancers and always carries historical stories with it. One of the most popular stories is Lasem which tells about Prabu Lasem's endless love for Princess Rankesari.
