Tribes of the Philippine Islands,Pintados Lady Warrior

Tribes of the Philippine Islands,Pintados Lady Warrior

During the Spanish Conquest of the Philippines exactly 500 years ago, the Conquistadors met the first natives who met the “white men”. They called these natives, Pintados or the “painted ones”. These natives were very distinct because of theiy were adorned with gold ornaments and tattoos called “patik” that establishes their role in the society. Lines and curves indicate their success in battles, their position in the society.
Usually men are considered as warriors/ defenders of the tribe but also women partake in defending the tribe. This is a tribute to the contribution of women in defending our freedom against the Spanish Conquest.
